When the College-Conservatory of Music musical-theater department opened its season with the rock opera “Evita” in the fall of 2010, all eyes focused on stars Alaina Mills, a Louisville senior playing Eva Perón, and Pierce Cassady, a Tallahassee, Fla., junior playing Che Guevara. Students not only comprised the cast, but also constructed sets, created costumes, performed the music as members of the CCM Philharmonia and conducted the orchestra, led by musical director Jesse Kissel, a second-year graduate student from New York City.
