Renee Jackson, A&S '07, was the 2002 Miss Ohio Teen USA and competed nationally on the televised Miss Teen USA pageant, which is part of the Miss Universe organization. She held the title while a student at UC, where she was involved in Student Government, Spanish Club, and the Student Affairs Advisory Committee.
In admitting that few UC people knew about her honor, she explains, "Some beauty queens keep their title under wraps to maintain some normalcy in their lives. I know for fact that there have been many other beauty queens on UC's campus who have also kept their titles quiet.
"There is much more to pageantry than a sparkly crown and sash. It's a job and a hard one at that. It's rewarding and gives a person a chance to make a true difference in their community.
"These amazing young ladies are inspiring. The ones with the quiet voices can often be the storm blazers."
