Graduation

The "pomp" in the circumstances surrounding graduation has varied greatly through the years, from flowing gowns in 1903 to mini-skirts in '71 -- all generations linked with an Ivy Chain, as shown from the '60s. Traditionally, junior women, dressed in white, have carried the chain of ivy -- or daisies early in the century -- to symbolize both renewal and the bond between graduating seniors and the university. When UC's 181st commencement takes place on June 9, the class of approximately 3,200 students will push the total number of living alumni well over the 200,000 mark.
