Nearly 20 years ago, UC’s new president could be found chatting with students under a tree. Today, Joseph Steger still looks for opportunities to hang out with them, everything from helping them move into the dorms to eating lunch with them at the Dining Pavilion. “Every year we get a new freshman class,” Dr. Steger says, “and I get to meet them, find out how they think. You’ve got to keep in touch with your students because the generations change. Students are very different today than they were 10 years ago.”
